John P. Limbach passed away June 13, 2017, on St. Simons Island, Ga. Born on May 24, 1948, in Manhattan, he was the beloved son of Marcella and John Limbach, who preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11AM Tuesday, June 20, 2017, in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

John earned a bachelor's degree from Queens College, NY, and a master's degree from Long Island University. He was a U.S. Marine, a child protective services investigator, and a state, and federal, probation and parole officer. His true calling was his 20-year career as a special agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). As a special agent, he worked in New York City; at the ATF National Academy in Glynco, GA; at ATF Headquarters in Washington, DC; and at the Savannah Field Office. Since retiring, John was an instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center at Glynco.

Always a sharp dresser, John was known to sport Gucci loafers, a starched Brooks Brothers shirt, a fine suit, and a silk pocket square--or a Polo shirt with popped collars and aviator glasses.

John met Sally, the love of his life, at work in 1995 at ATF Headquarters. A rich and joyous relationship culminated in their 2010 marriage after Sally relocated to the Golden Isles. All the while John was like a father to Sally's son, Cooper, from a previous marriage, embracing him as his own.

John was a thoughtful and generous person who made everyone he spent time with feel special. He had an innate ability to appreciate the wonder of the world. John had a real passion for life which included a host of interests, such as cars, racing, flying, and sailing. He could build or repair anything, was an excellent cook, and had great taste in design. He was a good storyteller, using humor and self-deprecation to best effect.

John leaves behind the love of his life, adoring wife Sally Brown; her son, Cooper Brown, and his wife, Jenna from Shawnee, KS; also mother-in-law Ms. Roy States from Scottsdale, AZ; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Debbie States and Mike Mabey from Atlanta, GA; and Judy and Roy Schumacher from Paradise Valley, AZ.

John is also survived by his sister, Marcy deTineo and husband, Basil, from Chicago, IL; niece Kristen deTineo, her husband, Floyd Mohler, and children Jack and Samantha, from Arlington, VA; and nephew J.B. deTineo, his wife Julie, and children Annie, Patsy, Frank, and John, from Chicago, IL.

In addition, John leaves a legacy of deep friendships with countless individuals whose paths he crossed in law enforcement and other aspects of his life. His influence on law enforcement trainees is enduring.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, June 19, 2017, from 5PM until 7 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
