Ralph Edward Poppell, 80, of Darien, departed this life Saturday, November 26, 2016, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Davis Cemetery in Long County with Rev. Tom Gardner officiating. Shane Poppell, Carson Quinn, Lee Poppell, Marshal Carson, Roy (Bubba) Poppell, Gary Poppell and Wyatt Poppell will serve as pallbearers. A funeral procession will depart Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home at 10 AM Saturday, December 3, 2016, in route to the cemetery.

Ralph Edward Poppell, 80, of Darien, departed this life Saturday, November 26, 2016, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Davis Cemetery in Long County with Rev. Tom Gardner officiating. Born June 17, 1936, in Long County to the late Robert Lee and Rosa Bell P. Poppell, he was a Veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1954 until 1958, and was the Chief Magistrate of McIntosh County from 1985 to 2005. Mr. Poppell was also a former Police Officer in Washington, DC. He had been a resident of McIntosh County for the past 35 years and enjoyed camping and boating. He also was an antique car collector and enjoyed interacting with people and nature. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Lou Poppell, a grandchild, Corey Ann Quinn, and two daughters in law, Kimberly Jane Poppell and Veronica LaFleur.
Survivors include three children: Shane Poppell of Darien, Connie Poppell-Quinn of Biloxi, MS, and Terry Lynn Ellis of Melbourne, FL; Son in law Forrest W. Quinn; six grandchildren: Carson Quinn and Stephanie Knox, Casey Quinn and Sam Ghiz, Shayna and Shaun Murphy, Lee Poppell, and Annabella Poppell; seven great grandchildren: Kaley, Regan, Dalyce, Tristan, Lukace, Grayson, and Kinzey; and a brother Roy Poppell Sr. and wife Ruth of Darien.
